Lacoste is a French owned apparel company, founded in 1933. They sell clothing, footwear, perfume, leather goods, watches, and eyewear, but are most famous for their tennis shirts. We carry Lacoste “tennis shirts” in a rainbow of colors, each season bringing in a new array of bright and beautiful shades.
The company is easily recognized by its green crocodile logo. René Lacoste was a famous French tennis player who obtained fame in two areas: tennis and fashion. Lacoste’s popularity has soared over the past several years. More recently, Lacoste has become more modern and quite upscale. Lacoste products are sold in over one-hundred and ten countries, however it still remains difficult to acquire the right shade in the right size. Pappagallo maintains elaborate Lacoste inventory season after season.
Have fun browsing our Lacoste products, which include the Lacoste sweater of the season (cable, flat-knit, v-neck, or crew), Lacoste long sleeve polos, Lacoste short sleeve, (and the most popular item) Lacoste long sleeve polos, Lacoste short sleeve polos, crew neck tees, henleys or v-necks, Lacoste shoes (we added their footwear recently) and have found them to be as adorable as they are comfortable. And we can’t forget the Lacoste baseball hat (which comes in an array of colors) and fits to perfection!
It all started with a juice stand in Palm Beach. Lilly, a young sassy New York socialite, had eloped with Peter Pulitzer, grandson of the Pulitzer Prize’s Joseph Pulitzer and settled in Palm Beach to live the life of the rich and famous. Lilly was determined to start a project of her own, so in the late 1950s she opened a juice stand just off Worth Avenue in Palm Beach.
Lilly Pulitzer’s business was a hit, but squeezing oranges, lemons, limes and pink grapefruit made a mess of her clothes. Realizing that she needed a juice stand uniform, Lilly asked her dressmaker to design a dress that would camouflage the stains. The result? A comfortable sleeveless shift made of bright colorful printed cotton – pink, green, yellow, and orange. The dress even had custom dressmaker details like lining and lace seam bindings. It was perfect for the job and became Lilly’s first Classic shift.
Although her customers liked Lilly’s juice, they loved her dress. When people began to ask if they could buy the dress, Lilly had a few more made up to sell in the stand. Soon Lilly was selling more dresses than juice, so she decided to stop squeezing and to focus on designing and selling her “Lillys”. Before long, Jackie Kennedy, an old school chum, began wearing Lillys, and as First Lady, was featured in Life Magazine wearing a Classic Shift. Then of course everyone wanted one, and Lilly Pulitzer became a fashion sensation.
In January 1993, the Lilly Pulitzer line was revived. The new Lilly Pulitzer is more popular than ever!
At Pappagallo, our collection of Lilly Pulitzer grows and grows each year. We like to represent the Lilly line in the best way we can – by choosing certain patterns and color groups that attract our customer at Pappagallo! We are excited for the Spring ’07 season, where Lilly has taken a whole new direction – eyelet, seersucker, lace, and embroidery being our personal favorites! “Lilly” fans will have a more sophisticated look. Upon entering Pappagallo, we often hear our customers refer to our store as “Lilly World” because our store’s merchandise is extremely colorful just like Lilly’s "Juice Stand".
